What is peanut flour you may ask? Peanut flour is essentially defatted peanut butter. They suck most of the fat out of the peanuts and grind up what’s left to create a flour. This means that peanut flour is low in fat, high in protein, and great for baking. I like to refer to it as natures protein powder. Peanut flour is also referred to as: peanut butter powder or PB2. I’m sure you’ve heard/seen PB2…it’s the same thing! PB2 is packaged in a peanut butter jar and if you ask me- is a rip off. Actually- I give them a giant high-five because they totally saw room in the market and jumped on it. Because they are one of the only brands on the shelves right now (thanks TJ’s), they can up-charge.
Where do I buy my peanut flour then? AMAZON, duh. I buy everything in bulk because it’s cheaper that way. The exact product I buy is the Protein Plus Roasted All Natural Peanut Flour (32 oz). The reason I LOVE this product is because the only ingredient is: dun dun dunnnnn —> peanuts! PB2 contains added sugar and salt, which to some extent probably makes it taste better, but I’d rather have the opportunity to add my own sweetness. I did want to note that if you are purchasing PB2 via Amazon, it’s about the same price is the Protein Plus (Go Amazon!).
Sorry for the long rant. I just want all of you to love peanut flour as much as I do I wanted to pull together a peanut flour round-up of delicious, lower in fat recipes! Can I just say, that I had an extremely difficult time finding recipes for this round-up! No fear, they are all Fit Foodie approved.
